MISS VIOLET WILLIAMS
Miss Violet Williams, 78, Rewey, died on Thursday morning, September 29, 1988 in the Mineral Point Living Center. She was born on January 15, 1910 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, daughter of John and Viola (Jones) Williams. She was a member of the Carmel and Peniel Presbyterian Churches. She graduated from Rewey High School and then from the Platteville Normal School. She taught for several years in New Diggings and for many years in the Dodgeville Middle School where later she was the librarian. She was honored with the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in Iowa County. She had a great interest in spelling and took many young people to spelling bees. She retired in 1975. She was also active in the Platteville chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma.
Surviving are three nieces, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Spencer of Madison, Mrs. Paul (Devona) Spink of Baltimore, Maryland, and Mrs. Tom (Viola) Webster of Denver, Colo.; and a nephew, Jack Jones of Racine. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Jones in December of 1967, Mrs. Margaret Nancolas in July of 1978, and Mrs. Florence Weittenhiller in October of 1969; and two brothers, John Lewis in September of 1977, and Charles Lewis in October of 1972.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 at the Bonin Funeral Home, Platteville. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. The Reverend Kenneth Fox, pastor of the Carmel & Peniel Presbyterian Churches officiated.
